Welcome to the revolution….

People. Planet. Food.

At Tierra Foods, we’re on a mission to transform global food companies' value chains, making them carbon-absorbing, biodiversity-rich and socially just through our unique, biomineralisation-centric approach.

The problem..

Our global food systems are unsustainable and the consequences are severe.

CLIMATE

Food systems produce 1/3 of global GHG emissions.

HEALTH

60% of our calories come from just three crops.

Agriculture accounts for almost 60% of biodiversity loss and 75+% of deforestation.

ENVIRONMENT

Agriculture drives social inequalities on access to inputs, labour conditions and fair wages.

SOCIETY

Meanwhile…..

Most global food brands have set net-zero and nature-positive targets.

However, with up to 95% of their total emissions in the notoriously challenging Scope 3 bracket, they need help to reach their targets.

The Tierra solution

Nature-positive, carbon-negative food systems

Biomineralisation is an exceptional process found in certain trees that possess a unique ability to mineralise atmospheric carbon dioxide into stable, inorganic calcium carbonate crystals in the soil.

Our solution leverages the permanent carbon sequestration power of these plants, like the ramón tree, capable of both biomineralising carbon and yielding produce for delicious superfood ingredients.

“Tierra Foods provides a holistic solution for food and beverage companies seeking to reduce their dependence and impact on nature, and an approach for these businesses to ‘inset’ with confidence.”

— Rob Gardner, Non-Executive Director

How we will do this

We help the food industry decarbonise inside their supply chain by creating biomineralisation-centric agroforestry projects.

Why the ramón?

Unparalleled CO2 sequestration

Permanent carbon sequestration via natural mineralisation.

Up to 10 x more than other forestry and agroforestry systems.

Nutrient-dense seeds

Seeds high in ‘complete’ protein, fibre, and packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Resilient

Survives and thrives in droughts, continuing to produce seeds.

Restores degraded land

Grows on degraded land, restores soil health and encourages healthy, biodiverse ecosystems.

High yield

Greater yield per hectare than wheat or maize.

Our impact

‘Tierra Foods was set up with social justice as a core value. Working in partnership with local communities, who already forage plants like the ramón in a regenerative way, is critical to our ethos and our success.

We have made a commitment to retain close relationships with, and add value to these communities, especially for women, through creating a market for their ingredients and providing education and training.

Our projects provide farmers access to the global carbon market and up-front financing. They provide increased income through improved yields, cost savings (reduced inputs), multiple revenue streams, and more premium produce (organic certification).

SOCIAL

As our solution harnesses the powers of biomineralisation-capable trees, implementation is via agroforestry. This regenerative agricultural practice regenerates degraded land, improves soil health and restores biodiversity.

What’s more, our focus on these plants, such as the ramón means we will permanently sequester millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Our approach is unique, spanning two realms as a Nature-Based Solution with permanent Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR).

ENVIRONMENTAL

“Globally, we face a myriad of crises – from climate to the biodiversity crisis and severe threats to food security. Recognising their intricate interconnections, we must seek comprehensive solutions that address these issues collectively. Tierra Foods does just that.”

- Clare Nickson-Havens, Non-Executive Director

Testimony from the Treasurer of Nuevo Becal’s Women’s Cooperative

“We feel supported by you and the team. This is a two-way relationship, no one else has come to us with this way to collaborate – you are investing in us, and we are here for the long term. As women, we can support each other.”
